The wolf is a powerful totem in many Native American cultures. Wolves are thought to be teachers and are associated with the star Sirius in the constellation Canus Major, as well as the moon. Wolves are known for their intelligence, courage, loyalty and strength. Wolf’s association with the moon’s feminine energy means that they are very intuitive and show great compassion and affection. These traits are seen in wolf’s strong sense of family and community, as well as their strong bond with their mates, which lasts throughout their lifetime. Wolves are extremely intelligent and are great communicators and leaders. They understand that cooperation and order are essential for survival. The wolf’s intense loyalty to his family pack makes these animals fierce and courageous protectors. In this piece, the wolf paw print is a sign of direction, leadership, protection and destruction. The morning star on his forehead stands for courage and purity of spirit, as well as wolf’s connection to the istar Sirius. The symbol of two arrows facing each other on his right shoulder stands for protection, family ties and closeness; while the symbol for family connections is shown on his left shoulder. The symbol of the moon, shown on his face, represents a protector and guardian of the Earth. The two Vs with a line below them above his eyes are ancient symbols for the power of knowledge. The symbol of the X with a circle above it below his right ear (and in the moon) is another ancient symbol that is associated with female power and compassion. The two Vs on either side of an upside down T below his left ear represent a leader with the wisdom and talent to lead others. The < symbols on his head are simple symbols that stand for one who accepts responsibility.
